Timing
Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last heavy frost, or direct sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked for summer use, then sow a new crop every two weeks. Sow in fall for overwintering.
Growing
Pull any weeds from the bed as soon as they appear; onions compete poorly with weeds. Spread 5 cm (2″) of mulch over the bed once the plants are tall enough to stand above the compost to help prevent weed growth. Divide the clumps the second summer to produce a new crop.
Harvest
70 days
Season
Cool, can be perennial
